Do you plan on sitting in the dark this Saturday night?
Around the world, people will make the symbolic gesture of showing they support a cleaner world and lower-carbon lifestyle by raising their carbon output.
Earth Hour, started in 2007, encourages people to show their support for the planet by turning their lights off and enjoying the world by candlelight. The problem, of course, is for most Canadians that means turning off a low-carbon energy source and burning pure fossil fuels.
The absurdity is likely lost on most professional environmentalists.

Thats true. And they dump all their litter along the highway as they drive. Then dump all their garbage on beaches while out on houseboats.

Most people don't know that before electrification became widespread in the 1950s that many homes burnt down due to kerosene lanterns.
This earth day is very stupid as well as useless. The earth is cooling. CO2 has little to due with atmospheric temps. and needs to increase to 2000 ppm for optimum plant growth. Green plant growth. To be green you must spew CO2,let's do all we can to reach 500 ppm by the end of this year. Go Greens.

Does it make an actual difference as to what goes in our air at that time, no. What it does do is keeps peoples mind on doing what we can to reduce our impact on the planet.
By the way Ron, I use a reel push mower, works great, not much harder to push then a motorized one does since the effort used to push the weight of a motor is about the same as it takes to turn the blades so I can keep mowing my lawn this summer.

Earth hour is great for the earth and its green objectives. Saving the air and the rising co2.But has anyone considered not moving their lawns this summer. Do you know the amount of pollution put into the atmosphere from gas powered lawnmowers. Engines which do not have to pass immition standards and all of them do not or even come close. Save the earth....don,t mow your lawn
