Send the bill to Tim Hortons she held up a tims cup proudly not a Canadian flag.

It would seem that enough people in Canada complained about her being in jail in Mexico that it came close to being a political issue. Now how many people complaining would you think would cause this type of political reaction---10%, 20%, 30%--50% of the Canadian population. Probably the same number of people who don't care how much money was spent to bring her home.
This is not news. This all should have been know by everybody beforehand. Why not complain about the money to be spent to bring her home before. Remember this was a prisoner transfer from one country to another that had to be conducted by the government.
What ever the number of people wanting the government to intervene to bring her home, apparently it was enough pressure to make the government to think it money well spent. If the government did not think it would be money well spent Brenda Martin would still be in jail in Mexico.
Its political pressure that counts, not Canadian taxpayers. If it was Canadian taxpayers that counts than we would be hearing more about the financial costs of sending our soldiers to war , the costs of public inquiries, the travel costs of our Member of Parliament. We should be careful questioning costs conducted by the government that has come under political pressure. We then, in effect, start questioning ourselves. I mean we, or enough of the Canadian populace, put them there, the political pressure to act. You can bet the opposition parties put forth most of this political pressure because they knew they had the backing to put pressure on the government. The government thinking, what will make this all go away? A prisoner transfer costing $82 thousand dollars. That's all? Let's do it. Money well spent. Now the heat is off. But, wait, the Public inquiry into police use of Tasers begins in Canada ...and lets not forget when any more Canadian soldiers start dying in Afganistan. What are we going to say or do then?

I'm just sitting here wonder when she will be back into business screwing money out of unsuspecting people...It's a sad day in the Canadian justice system. I vote we let poor Paul Bernardo out and pay him for his time in prison.....It's only fare we give him the same treatment Brenda Martin got!

I've spent many happy hours at the watering holes along playa los muertos and Olas Altas in PV . I've seen the habits and inclinations of the expat alcoholic community there, of which Martin belonged.
She knew she was sleeping with dogs. I'm ashamed of our government. The Mexicans had it right.

What a crock. Some tears, get the media involved and "act" like your going to commit suicide, Canada got suckered hook line and sinker with this one. How many more? We the taxpayers should send her a bill for the $82,000.

While I sympathize that she was imprisoned in a foreign country, I am not sure I buy the innocent story when she invested her severance pay with the man who fired her....

The tab is running: $80,000 plus for transport; what will be the cost to wean Ms. Martin from her dependency on drugs, plus supporting her until she is employed? I'm afraid I can't afford her.

Regardless of innocence or guilt, Brenda Martin's plight, frightening as it was, did not warrant an $82k flight. Were there not any commercial flights available? As a taxpayer, I don't agree with the use of a chartered jet to bring her home. I believe Ms. Martin was not treated fairly by the Mexican government but to be treated as a 'special' Canadian citizen is too much. I hope she is truly grateful for the special treatment she has received as most Canadians will never in their lifetimes experience the same.

To everyone belly aching about the cost and 'is she gonna pay it back and what a waste of money...' the government wastes a whole lot more than this on pure nonsense, if we the people only knew, she may be quilty or not, I don't know but for everyone so enraged about the publicied cost, get over it it's a drop in the bucket. ;]
