Martin is as much of a con-artist as her former boss. Shameful. Precident set. $80,000 should be recouperated from Martin, I am sure her book deal will cover it.

I'll bet 99% of all prisoners in this world claim they are innocent. Why even Paul Bernardo claims he is innocent. If being incarcerated for a long time is a concern with anyone don't commit any crimes in a foreign country. Do it in Canada, spend a short stay in jail and out you go. People need to realize that countries other then Canada actually believe in making criminals do hard time.

This poor woman was abandoned for a very long time by our government and finally due to her friend's and a journalist's help she gets noticed. An Edmonton Journal journalist has chronicled her story and she is innocent. Where are Canadian's compassion? After 2 years in a foreign jail for a crime she didn't do, 82,000 doesn't sound like much to me.

Yup...we're a whimpy country alright. Defending criminals and letting them go with very little punishment. We did it with FLQ terrorists in 1970, so why not a small time criminal in Mexico crying crocodile tears on national TV. I'll bet you that that savage murderer Paul Bernardo will be out in a few years.

In the meantime victims in this country get no support from a blind justice system. People in Quebec go on camera and cry to get access to English schools and are ignored by Ottawa for fear of pissing of Quebec nationalist.

We're so good at preaching to the Americans yet show no regard for the rights of Canadians inside our own country. Shame on us and our hipocritical system.

As for the $80,000 spent to fly her home on a private jet..let her pay for it!!! I'm disgusted!!!

Total Embarrassing for the entire Country.

Can I go across seas, steal, forge and rob them - only to expect my Mom to cry and have the Canadian Government ship me back? Maybe get a Coffee at Tim's?

Soon as you cross that border - you're in their land and their rules - REGARDLESS.

Canadian Gov't broke down due to the case went Public and a crying mother.

But they are safe still - they used OUR money to fly her back - I could have driven there picked her up and brought back to Canada for less that that - just pay my gas bill...

Well - maybe the gas bill will reach that total, but we understand - had to bring home a criminal instead of helping Millions with Gas...

By the way - the pothole in front of my house is STILL NOT FIXED!

Time to get PRIORITIES STRAIGHT - but realism kicks us in the butt. To make Harper Gov't look good at our expense.

Absolutely Incredible...

Its a small price to pay for this GREAT COUNTRY CANADA, just quoting Jean Chretien when the liberals stole millions of tax payers dollars

What a ridiculous picture

She's guilty and should still be down there. Nice out though. Our political parties are pathetic when there's pressure. Glad I don't have to see her balling on t.v. anymore atleast. Cost me no more than $600 flying back from Mexico. What a bunch of crap! Brenda, get a job and start paying us back!
scott, 2008-05-09 21:18:51

If you read the history of this case, you'll see that her basic human rights were violated - she was never provided a translator. She and her lawyer either didn't or couldn't pay the bribes necessary to get her out of Mexico, so she spent time in a Mexican jail with little to no evidence against her. I guarantee you this - I'll never travel to Mexico again.

Good for the Harper government for stepping in and bringing her home.

I know Brenda from Mexico. Don't be surprised to see her wandering the streets of Trenton so drunk she can't walk. There is no way she didn't know what Waage was up to. She gave him 10,000 back to re-invest, AFTER she was fired??? C'mon people..wake up!

Pay back ALL the money you owe Canadian taxpayers Brenda, THEN maybe we will gain some SMALL measure respect for you.

She should have had this trial (In Mexico) a LONG time ago. Two years isn't fair to make someone wait guilty OR innocent.

BUT, a charter jet, and paying her fine? Unbelievable. It makes me ashamed to be Canadian.
