The people who comment on here for the most part sound ignorant and uneducated. The Mexican legal system is vastly corrupted and a Canadian citizen was caught up in it. Forced to spend 2 years in a Mexican prison when there was zero evidence against her I think it was not only our government's responsibilty but also their duty to bring her home.

They should have kept her there....She got caught and she should have paid for her crimes...Besides since she came back here what has she done>??How are Canadaians gonna recover that money to get her out???Is she gonna pay it back????

I think I am a little ignorant of the whole story. I have seen Brenda's mom on Canada Am. I have seen Brenda on the news in a serious crisis situation and presenting that way. I have seen 2 decent woman wrongfully convicted of a murder that occured in Mexico. These woman have probably not even stolen a bubble gum from a corner store. I do not trust Mexican law authorities very much at all. If Brenda did something wrong, then lesson learned. This family is elated and will live a valuable, quality, moment centred life, probably for the rest of their lives, and that is worth the cost of getting Brenda back to Canada. I am happy for them. LESSON LEARNED! Proud of Canada!!

another 80k down the tubes. How much more can the government waste our money. I wouldn't suggest that she get a job and pay back the money, she's liable to go and fraud somebody else for it. You'll never make me believe she didn't know what was going on. Guilty as sin she is. If you can't do the time don't do the crime I say.

If I was innocent I would hope for the same. 80k is small change. I think the government handled this one well

Why should we have to pay for her? I cannot even get money owed to me by REVcan and she spend my money!!! Disgusting

This "woman" could not of flown home on a domestic flight? with all the flights back and forth from Mexico I do not foresee a problem with her getting a seat on one of these charters. 2ndly what happens to the next guy arrested in Mexico and the gov't comes calling saying they want him/her transfered back to their own country to serve out their senteance, only to be let go within days of returning home. You can bet the Mexican gov't is not going to be so quick to let these people go and I for one would not blame them. Mexico is a very dangerous place for Canadian tourists it not not all sun and glamour like the brocures show. What a utter utter scam this is. Make this woman repay the gov't for the expense of returning her home.

She must have had some dirt on Harper!

Bottom line, when you leave the confines of Canada, Behave and represent Canada proudly. Mess up, commit a crime, pay the penalty, do not expect Canada to run to your aid. To to many bleeding hearts.

If she was my mother, I would be forever grateful that she was home. That amount of money is a drop in the bucket compared to a all the government money that is wasted.
