She is in jail because she is guilty.

She's likely to stay there until she's proven innocent.

Welcome to Mexico.

Regardless of our Government's position or in-action, it is the individual's ultimate responsibility to reduce any risk when travelling. We are fully aware of how the Mexican Bureaucrats function!

EVERYONE SHOULD STOP GOING TO MEXICO. They want our money, of course we should pressure them to move into the 21st Century. Until then stop going to Mexico. Come on people, quite acting like spoiled children wanting what you want when you want it.

let this be a lesson to all canadians travelling in foreign countries,if you expect your government to help you, forget it. You can be sure if she were an American she would have been out of jail a long time ago. Viva Mexican justice.

As long as Canadians continue to choose Mexico as a prime vacation spot, there will always be trouble.

I refuse to go to Mexico, Dominican, Cuba etc as the vast majority of the people who live in Mexico ie the ones that were born there, are desperately poor. Not only that, the governments of those nations do not care about due process of law as we do. They are interested in ONE THING....your money.

Just think, how many Canadians have died in Mexico, and the subsequent investigation has the appearance of a whitewash?

The Mexican government contended that two soccer moms from Thunder Bay murdered the couple from Toronto...that should tell you Mexico is not a place you should be.

the woman is a canadian citizen bottom line!!!! and from what it looks like a innocent canadian citizen who has been rail roaded by a corrupt legal system as others have said. There is no wonder she is on suicide watch death must seem like a out for this poor woman god know what shes has been throught even a big tough man like dog chapman(oh yeah his government helped him out and he was guilty) was scared of a mexican jail.i think the canadian government should get involved if the mexicans want to violate human rights then do it to you own people not to ours and that she is in their country and have to abide by their rules is fine and dandy but when those rules violate her human rights then something has to be done.the americans have invaded a country for this one purpose(first it was to find wmd now its free the iraq poeple) we cant even step up to help one of our own.i am disgusted with the way our government has turned their back on brenda martin.to brenda you are a brave woman to hold on for so long i would have given up long ago and died dont give up hope now.you have thousands of people who are praying for your safe return to canada this ia m sure im am now one of them.To the canadian government BRING BRENDA HOME

How thick are some of you people. She was accused of a crime in MEXICO not CANADA,it`s their bat and their ball so it`s their game.

I truly sympatise with Brenda and the ordeal that she is experiencing. Using her severance pay of $20,000 from her former employer to start a business venture, I believe was very risky and today she finds herself in this nightmarish situation. Personally, I would have taken the first flight out of Mexico. Why wasn't she provided with a translator? I guess the bottom line is when you travel to any foreign country, you should be aware of the pitfalls especially when SA is well known for a corrupted government. To be subjected to a Mexican jail cell without having been convicted is absolutely atrocious!!! I do hope that diplomacy will prevail and wish Brenda a speedy return to Canada.

Mexico is a dangerous place. Ms. Martin is perhaps a victim of a corrupt law enforcement system. We as Canadians should see her plight as an example of what can become of a person who chooses to go to Mexico and we as Canadians should find somewhere else to go. I do not know if she is innocent or guilty - but I do believe that the two Canadian women who were identified as "suspects" in the murder of a Woodbridge couple in Mexico by Mexican authorities were about as likely to be guilty of that murder as Cinderella or Alice in Wonderland.

The only responsible thing that the Canadian government can do, whether or not it is able to bring justice to Ms. Martin, is to issue a travel advisory against Canadians travelling to Mexico. Mexico is a dangerous place.
