Marnie Tunay is seriously missing the point as all left wing people do. This was not a criminal offence that was perpetrated in Canada. He was captured in a war,in which case he should be treated like a Prisoner of war which does not afford him the rights of criminal laws in Canada.Could you imagine trials for all POW in WW11. As a footnote ,the prisoners in Gitmo have gained weight and have better conditions than most countries.

Khadr is either a POW, a terrorist or a criminal. He is not a innocent bystander, so he does belong in jail/prison. If he is considered a POW, he stays in prison until the war is over and that could be along time. If he is a terrorist he should be handed over to the Afghan Government now. If he is criminal, the US Government should try him soon. As for him coming back to Canada, the answer is no, he gave up his Canadian citizenship when he decided to join the Taliban. For the people who want to muddy up the waters with crap like Bush should be tried as a war criminal, that's for another blog. This blog is for Khadr, some say that he was only fourteen old when his father took him to join the Taliban, so what, what if he was eighteen at the time, we wouldn't be having this discussion. For most boys from the age of 14 to 18 years old, there is not a lot of maturing. The only different, he would have been more harden in his resolve in destroying his so called enemies. It doesn't matter, he is damaged goods and should be sent back to Afghanistan in all cases.

well marnie

65% of Canadians are fine with a young offender, being held without bail to be tried as an adult for murder since this isn't an uncommon occurence. The torture is a matter of opinion. Sleep deprivation, apperently 80% of north americans suffer from it. In prison its called torture by bleeding hearts. In the real world its called making a living.

Check out the facts before you spout.

-Trained by terrorists to kill americans.

-Found alive in a fire fight where dead american was killed by grenade

-Belongs to the side that threw the grenade

-That side has vowed the destruction of all americans

-He's Canadian, which since we are not at war with the US but actually are allies fighting with them, that alone violates many of our laws and laws of war. Ever hear of treason?

-half his family has died fighting and trying to kill americans

well sorry charon for responding to your comment when you used my name. Guess you don't expect it. Don't know where you get i agree with twitpie since all he has done is attacked me and told me I'm wrong but if the glare off my hair on my head is making it hard to read, i don't even see your sarcasm in your post.
wayne, 2008-07-18 09:36:50

It always makes me laugh when someone who never posts actually does for the first time, not about the topic but to attack others and to show support of Twitpie and amazingly enough in the exact same format that twitpie posts. New poster or twitpie alias. You know the one, the one that fills the sight with there travel plans but never actually goes.

Wayne, the last thing I ever want to be known as is some one that agrees with the resident, wingnut and troll a.k.a. Twitty. It was sarcasm, although it probably went of it wee balding head. lol

If anyone thinks its ok for Omar Khadar & his parents to hold their view freely in Canada, do they also believe it's ok for the white Christian woman in Winnipeg to lose her children for her beliefs? And if so, why does she lose her children, but his family continue their tirade of terror to destroy everything Canada & the western world stand for?

65% of Canadians are just fine with Khadr's having been tortured and rotting in Gitmo - even though he hasn't been tried much less convicted of anything. Rights to a fair trial, to legal representation the first time you ask for it, to be considered innocent until proven guilty, to not be tortured into confessing - those are for the people we like, eh? (Hopefully 'we' will like 'you' if you ever get arrested...)

Not that I'm old and bitter or anything, but the majority of people in the West (at least 65%) are still far from understanding what 'democracy' really means.

Case in point: a Canadian judge has ruled that a Canadian citizen had his rights violated in Gitmo, to the degree that the word 'torture' could reasonably be applied to those violations. That Canadian has not yet been tried for, much less convicted of any crime. However, the majority of Canadians responding to surveys or requests for input that I've read have stated that not only do they not care that a Canadian legal minor was tortured without a trial or legal representation - but he can just rot in Gitmo for all they care.

There is no prevailing sense even in the 'enlightened' west of what it does to us to rationalize the use of methods we know to be evil.

How can we expect our enemies to have any regard for our supposedly higher order? Why should our version of democracy prevail over the world? We limit it to those we like and withhold it from those we don't. We have no qualms whatsoever about keeping undemocratic regimes in power provided only that they talk friendly and feed their resources to us first. Who cares what their subjugated subjects think about our two-facedness? Most of us don't care one whit. Just keep them oil reserves comin.'
