Do people protest too much?
Thu, February 24, 2011

TORONTO - Telling anti-poverty protesters to “Get a job” is the same as hurling racial or homophobic epithets, an Ontario Coalition Against Poverty member said Wednesday.

“Every poor person who receives social assistance or unemployment knows what that means,” Gaetan Heroux said at City Hall Wednesday. “It means you’re lazy, get a job, get out of my hair stop bothering me.

“When they put that “Get a job” on the front page of the Sun, they used those bigoted words to attack poor people.

“What’s the difference between that and saying racial comments to a black person, or homophobic comments?”

Yeah Gord, and seperating the few violent offenders from the bulk of the peaceful ones in a massive public and rowdy crowd is a lot like seperating fly shit from pepper. Sometimes, you have to go in there with a broom and sweep up the works in order to clean the floor.

Pretty soon, your right to protest will be abolished. Look at the G-8 or G-20 conference in Toronto last year (I forget which one it was). People just peacefully protesting were cornered and arrested for doing nothing illegal. There was vandalism, but that was done by certain people not a part of the majority. The vast majority of people who were protesting were doing so in a legal manner, exercising their democratic rights.

Shawn Shawn. Larry is saying assistance should only be given to people who want or are trying to get back into the workforce. He is saying if you are not doing that you are lazy and should not receive assistance. Many people are unable to work for a variety of reasons and need assistance.

Hi Shawn, thanks for making the obvious of my comment to Mr.s Brigand. As you already know, I'm sure this person who hides behind different names never has anything constructive or complimentry to say. "It" attacks all and loves to play the "devils advocate". All those out there who find "its" ramplings annoying should know I got my satisfaction when "it" ended "its" comment on mine by saying, "You make me ill". So I succeeded in doing something I wanted to achieve, make "it"s sick". Trouble is not sick enough to stop "it" from still making confrontational, yet mind dead comments.

Brig picks a chunk out of Redneck Larry's comment and challenges it.

What about his comment which you quoted isn't 100% accurate?

"The government provides assistance to those who want to get back into the workforce."

10 years ago, I was without work, down on my luck. A gov't agency provided me with guidance, resume help, and helped me get back into the workplace. You're babbling just to hear youself babble. Larry's comment which you quoted is 100% fact.

Shawn, 2011-03-07 11:59:16

Unfortunately the only way it seems to get the Government to do any actual work is to have a protest. Is the concept abused, well DUH!.
Trixie, 2011-03-06 10:21:07

protests are valid in some cases sure.

But it is usally just a bunch of leftards whining for more free taxdollars.

And tweedlepig again you are wrong! Shocker!

There is so much assistance available it is ridiculous, just because you think you're better than the jobs available to you doesn't make it so. What you are is a lazy unemployed person sucking on the taxpayer teat.

I'd suggest getting out and tring to make yourself useful, maybe some hard work would elliminate some of your biased hatred.

maybe........

It is completely inflamatory to use the term racist to compare with speaking the phrase "get a job" to someone collecting social assistance. I am not condoning it (as twitty will surely intervene to falsely say I am), but there is a tremendous difference between racism (people don't choose their race) and social assistance reception (where some people really do "choose" to take advantage of the system). People who speak this way, as if to imply one is on par with the other, should be kicked in the stones. Such comparisons remove credibility from the coalition. There is such a thing as bad publicity and this is an example of it. It is like Boob Rae and his recent jihadst comment directed at young conservative politcals. Very very poor taste, opportunistic, and a total lack of judgement, unless he actually doesn't know what a jihad is, and that would be a whole other issue (and he wants to lead the liberal party...teehee!) Bob, if you want to avoid making a fool of yourself in the future, then please stop using your mouth.

My God Larry do you ever think? This statement couldnt be further from the truth..

"The government provides assistance to those who want to get back into the workforce."

There are MANY people who are unable to work for a variety of reasons. And they need government assistance just to stay alive. Seems you would rather they just drop dead.

Right wingers for some reason hate poor and people with mental illness. Larry calls mentalily ill people LAZY. That is SICK. I can give examples of people who are dying from things beyond their control who are unable to work but Larry calls them LAZY for not getting a job.

Go back to boycotting NHL players Larry. You make me ill
