Three sterling silver flower baskets sold off by the government at bargain-basement prices on a government website were on loan to Rideau Hall from Buckingham Palace, Sun Media has learned.
Richard Legrand, who worked at the governor general's residence for 35 years, says he was told when he started at Rideau Hall in 1968 that the ornate pierced silver flower baskets were among several items borrowed from the British royal family.
"Those three baskets were on loan from Buckingham Palace, including two huge candelabra that we used on the diningroom table for state events."
Whenever Queen Elizabeth II visited Canada and stayed at Rideau Hall, the silver baskets filled with flowers were placed in the suite where she slept, said Legrand who retired in 2003.

I think it is time this topic should be removed as no one seems to be interested.Better to raise the question of McWhimpy's idiotic idea of making our four and five year old children all day students.

If they are going to auction items off they should be required to have at least 2 appraissers come in and set a minimum price. If that price is not met during an auction then it goes back and can be brought out for auction at a later date.
There should be somethings not allowed to go up for auction and decided upon by a panel of historians. Anything from Britain, Europe, Asia or anywhere else in the world go ahead. As for selling something on loan from Buckingham Palace. Since they haven't asked for it back in decades I doubt they even knew we had it or thought they had given it to us so no big deal.

The NCC is administrator off all things of land and buildings this includes but not exclusive to Rideau Hall. I am absolutely sure Harper would know what is going on at the Rideau Hall yard sale. I suppose you would expect Harper to personally run pay the hydro bill.
