What should happen to the parents of the 7-year-old driver? Tue, August 4, 2009
Parents who let their seven-year-old son drive a car along a bumpy back road in Quebec and filmed it to post on YouTube could be charged if they are caught by provincial police.
Video of the youngster confidently driving a Honda sport utility vehicle surfaced on the popular video-sharing website and has been seen by police.
Letting junior test drive the car may be a rite of passage in many families but police aren't amused.
What should happen to the parents of the 7-year-old driver?

I hope his paents win a lottery so they can buy a refurbished Lear jet. Strap the 7 year-old in the pilots seat and cuff his parents to the passenger seats. YouTube it.

What should happen to the parents of the 7-year-old driver? ABSOLUTLY NOTHING!!!
This goes on all the time in the area in which they live. This is no different than the back woods of Tennesse. Dysfunction reigns - generation after generation.
Their mistake was putting on "you Tube" thats all. Stupid is not a crime.

Likely some pot smoking right winger. Too drunk and stoned to drive so they let a 7 year old.

Duh , Take up a collection and get the kid a driving test. Then lower the age limit to get a licence. He could be driving truck by the time he's eight.

oops, meant "there". Anyway, Wayne, where are the parents as these 7 year-old kids tool off in a car to kindergarten? Oh, I get it, the kids are 11 and are in grade 4. Do they have their own parkinglot so they can play bumber cars during recess? Exactly what is their insurance coverage? I have relatives that live in the Yukon, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and none of them have heard of such a program.
If two of these kids have an accident, and one flees the scene, how are they held responsible? If a pillow is not enough for them to see over the steering wheel are they allowed to use a telephone book to sit on and then if they can't reach the brakes can they use a hockey stick to alternately press on the gas pedal or the brakes?
If one is fortunate enough to meet one of these "kid" drivers head-on on a rural road can one sue the SPONSER of the program, or just the parents? With regards to your moronic post in "the moon hoax" thread if their parents remove the appropriate parts from the engine would these kids need a rocket pilot's license and a gun license to complement their under age driver's license? Is there a tonnage limit, I mean what if they only have a tractor trailer available are they allowed to drive a 16 wheeler? What about a Shelby GT 500, you know something that will go 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds? Just asking.

Some of you are totally amazed this is an issue, some of you think it is outrageous.
While I too experienced the 'right of passage' albiet at the age of 15; 7 is way to young.
How many times over the last 30 years have many of us said "oh well, no one got hurt"? Whether anyone is hurt or not, what message are we sending to our kids? It is okay to disobey the laws of society? That is clearly the wrong message.
Thirty years ago, you got caught taking a knife to school you got suspended and a kick in the ass or grounded when you faced the old mans music. But over the years some of us said 'oh its only a little pocket knife'; now we have all kinds of weapons in the schools, drive by shootings daily in this country. That did not happen on a regular basis 30 years ago did it? As long as we keep tolerating (as a general society) these types of acts with a clear disregard for laws and others we will continue on this downward spiral.
If you think I'm out of touch thats your right, but if you are open minded sit back someday and think about when people used to stop at stop signs. Think about when we were kids we walked down the street where sidewalks existed; when a car came we got off the road. Now the kids stay on the road because they simply do not care that you have to avoid them. If you run over them sidewalks provided you are still at fault.
The parents need a swift kick in the pants to wake them up to common sense and teaching kids right from wrong not how to break the law and not get caught. But then again they were stupid enough to video it and post it on youtube.

No, no, no. Wayne says there are PROGRAMS that encourge KIDS to drive to school in rural areas...so their parentscan sit at home and sip tea. AND...their INSURANCE companies MUST know about it, otherwise how could it be a PROGRAM. DUHHHHH.

Gee, sounds like someone sent their common sense on a separate vacation from the rest of their body, or else it went on strike. Either way they should have their license revoked and ability as a parent reviewed. If that child had an accident and seriously hurt or killed anyone they would be in real deep ku-ka.
Glad charges have been laid.

UH, source. 60 minutes website search from 1999-2009 reveals nothing. This couldn't be in Canada. So, when a tourist drives into a rural area to catch some scenery are their warnings posted...7 year-old sitting on pillow (WITH INSURANCE) driving car LEGALLY? Are they driving EXTERNAL or INTERNAL combustion cars?

Can you say Criminal Negligence, how about Dangerous Driving under the criminal code. How about STUPID Mom in back seat with ababy in her lap. Its time we got back to holding parents accountable for their and their childrens actions. How about failing to provide the necessities of life to a minor, they put their children and themselves in harms way intentionally and stupid enough to video it and put it on youtube. How F@#$ing moronic can a parent be?
