Are white males in danger of becoming a minority?
Tue, November 3, 2009

EDMONTON -- Hundreds of posters featuring the "femimenace" and other tongue-in-cheek images were put up around the University of Alberta campus last week in response to controversial comments made by the university's president.

In an interview published Oct. 21, president Indira Samarasekera said she was concerned by Statistics Canada numbers that indicate women make up 58% of the student population at Canadian universities.

She went on to say a major worry is that 20 years from now "we will not have the benefit of enough male talent at the heads of companies and elsewhere."

Nope. Why should capital cities be in the centre of any jurisdiction. Would it look more balanced on a map? Convince the Russians to move Moscow and B.C. to move Victoria then get back to me.

Way back in about 1900, the province of Ontario was very small and the capitals Toronto and Ottawa were located in the little piece of land south of Sudbury. That little piece of land is about 15% of Ontario. Isn't it time to move the capitals toward the center of the province and country. Our nation's capital should be located about Flin Flon and Ontario's capital could be carved from the wilderness somewhere north of Wawa, which is actually in southern Ontario. Look at a globe before commenting. This New Toronto could be properly planned with wide streets lots of parks. Due to supposedly global warming, civil servants will flock to the north to escape the heat. Is there a problem with this proposal?

Leave it to this commentator to state what has always been true. White males have always been a minority, even in the early days of this country. Women have always outnumbered men, 51.8% to 48.2%, if I recall the numbers. With the decline of the european-descent population, the stereotpical white male is going to become rarer and rarer. They're still going to be one of the larger identifiable groups, but they have never been a majority.

Exactly what I meant. Of course, brain-dead Ontario/Twitless can't draw a line to connect two points so I KNEW it would not have a clue.

I ran a poll in three cities. Vancouver the common answer was I;

Missisauga the common answer was हाँ; and Quebec the common answer was Ben Non osti! So does this satisfiy the question desired impact.

I figured he meant Edmonton is too cold so recent immigrants don't move there. They stick to Vancouver and Toronto, with the Francophiles amoung them going to Montreal. Services are better, climate is milder, there are larger existent communities of their fellow racial or social group available (and if not we'll pay for street signs in whatever native tongue you have so you don't feel "oppressed" by our uncaring Canadian society) and the welfare offices are located within an easy walk of local transit...

That was my take anyway, of course s/he can speak for themselves :)

Cheers

Ah here it is:

http://www12.statcan.ca/census-recensement/2006/dp-pd/prof/92-591/details/page.cfm?Lang=E&Geo1=CSD&Code1=3520005&Geo2=PR&Code2=35&Data=Count&SearchText=toronto&SearchType=Begins&SearchPR=35&B1=All&Custom=

And this is 2006, immigration populations will likely have compounded by at least 50% since then.

To the story's point:

Toronto: immigrants: 1,237,720, non-immigrants: 1,184,235.

Mother tongue: English: 1,229,585, Other: 1,212,840.

And that's just Toronto. Mind you recent immigrants flock to cities where there are jobs, housing, welfare offices and amenities, but saying Toronto is primarily white male populated seems overstated. My neighbourhood shows a 76% "Asian" demographic.
