Do people take enough responsibility for themselves?
Tue, January 19, 2010

ACTON, Ont. -- An Acton teen was left with second-degree burns Saturday after having an epileptic seizure inside a KFC outlet and landing face-down in her piping-hot poutine.

Her irate father told the Sun Monday he’s not after a multi-million dollar lawsuit, he just wants to speak out to warn others and perhaps get the Colonel to turn the temperature down on the cheese and gravy.

"We have become SLAVES" (should read "I have become a slave")

speak for yourself. seeing as some of us think, speak and act according to what we KNOW to be true, not what we have been FED by the media... rest assured there are still a few of us who do take responsibility for what we say/do.

while some sit at home playing armchair quarterback, others immerse themselves in the real world.

feel free to give it a try.

Most people have no comprehension of what it means to take responsibillity for themselves never mind for their actions.

We have become SLAVES, always seeking the escape from our sovereign responsibilities as human beings; no person/government/institution is responsible for another's actions through their words, deeds or speech, and to believe otherwise so is to deny the power of the "person" and to acquiesce to the power of government and relinquish sovereign freedom and personal liberty.

Triple-fatal crash survivor sues for $4.9M

So let me get this straight, here we have 4 students, bar hoping from one bar to the next. After visiting (was it 3 or 4) bars, they decided to drive off somewhere. Now before we continue we'll just make this 'absurd' assumption that maybe the MacDonald should have been responsible for himself and his friends, seeing as he saw himself fit to drive, after visiting 3 or 4 bars. But even if he wasn't responsible for his own actions, what about the three other stooges who didn't stop their drunken idiot friend from driving ? Are they responsible for not stopping him from getting behind in the drivers seat ? You know, the good ol "be a friend and take your friends keys away"... no ? What about the three passengers who had been with MacDonald all night and knew how much he had to drink, and they not responsible for having gotten in a car being driven by someone they KNEW was intoxicated ? ... no ? Is it maybe MacDonalds fault for having blown through a red light in the early hours of the morning in winter, when streets are slippery ? Looks like (according to Gardiner and his lawyers) the answer is NO, none of them are responsible for the horrendously poor decisions that made that night, nope, the blame, according to them should be placed on :

- OC transpo and the city, for not making sure their busses are in ultra shape, equipped with the gear needed to stop from 50 to zero in 3 feet on winter roads with a green light, not it's the buses fault for trusting that nobody would be stupid enough to run a red light, especially someone stupid enough to do so with three friends in the car.

- It's the cities fault for not allowing their drivers to catch enough sleep. Granted OC transpo schedules are horrible, but can get get proof here that had the driver had 3 hours of extra sleep he'd have been able to magically phase his bus through the SUV ?

- They are using the older brother of the driver because he's responsible for the drivers estate (does that sound like a 'hey' give me money, no? fine - lawsuit)

- Also more responsible than the kids and the driver appears to be Grace o Malleys and clocktower pub, on and a campus bar too, all for not having the phychic powers required to know that MacDonald was the driver amongst them. If he was stumbling all over the place then maybe the bars could have looked into it when he left the bar, but if he was stumbling all over the place why did they let him drive ? Maybe a new policy should be DDs have to wear their keys around their necks so bars know who to underserved.

- Intact insurance .. well I don't know why they come into play, I'm assuming Gardiner wants them to pay for all his medical bills (assuming it was the company insuring MacDonald), but they're being sued because the driver was underinsured ? As in was legally insured, but to their opinion he should have had better insurance ? Or was there less insurance than legally required ? I still argue Gardiner can pay his own damn bills, having been stupid enough to not stop his drunk friend from driving, but also for getting in the car himself. I'm pretty sure nobody, including the insurance company, twisted his arm into getting in the car. Let's see who else are they blaming ...

Oh seems like that's it .. but get this, his sister is suing for "loss of care, guidance and companionship" pleeeease, loss of companionship ? Don't you mean "I want in on free money ?" or "My life was inconvenienced by my brother and MacDonalds poor decisions and now I want the city to pay me for it ?"

They say the bus driver was driving faster than he should have considering the road conditions... well considering the road conditions MAYBE YOU SHOULDNT HAVE RUN A RED LIGHT IN WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING, WHILE INTOXICATED AND HAVING THREE FRIENDS IN YOUR CAR.

Gardiners tragedy should be a reminder of what can happen if you don't use that thing in your skull they call a BRAIN !! People who make stupid decisions shouldn’t be compensated for their idiocy. What's next, they're going to sue MADD for not having campaigned their message strongly enough ? I read this article and all I read was ..

"I refuse to take responsibility for what happened that night. I am just as responsible as MacDonald but that doesn't change the fact that my poor decisions lead to the death of three of my friends and allot of hospital time for me, and now I want everyone to pay for the pain I have brought onto myself"

Grow some balls Ben.

If people took responsibility for themselves then we wouldn1t be a socialist country.
tiny pei, 2010-02-26 06:10:28

The Crusher, 2010-02-10 19:43:49 They would just sue us all for depriving them of their best and traditional source of income.
Not_the_Daddy, 2010-02-24 14:28:35

If people took enough responsibility for themselves there would be a whole new class of starving lawyers but society would adjust and we'd be all better off for it.

Hear hear beakie and I find it fascinating how the old hag is able to go completely off topic again and again yet the mods allow it to continue unabated. It is obvious this is a desperate lonely old hag who is an attention whore.

I love how she states I hate brown skinned people yet if she met me in person she would realize I am one of them. Of course the coward is part of this new generation, hiding behind a computer.

you just have to look at a small forum like this one to see how irresponsible people can be.

choose 5 random topics and you'll find one thing in particular in common, one person logging in to spread its lies about whatever it feels like.

no responsibility, or accountability, this person just enjoys seeing its name on the internet spreading lies for personal enjoyment.

nope, people today feel to "entitled" to whatever they want, the world has spawned these people, so we're stuck with them.

poor us.
beakie, 2010-02-08 11:32:49

Well, according to Jay, everything is either the parents or society's fault and they are therefore the responsible parties. It reminds me of Scientific American cartoon where it depicted a child pointing at a parent, who was pointing at a grandparent, who was pointing at homo erectus, who was pointing at an ape, who was pointing at a creature emerging from a pool of primordial ooze.
Not_the_Daddy, 2010-02-07 21:07:43

Absolutely not!! Lets keep passing the back so we never have to admit that our actions may actually have caused the problem/or hurt someone
