Should teachers be held to a higher standard? Fri, February 26, 2010
WINNIPEG - Two academics are slamming Winnipeg's two "lap-dancing" high school teachers for what they charge is crossing a professional line, and likely severely damaging their credibility.
While the Winnipeg School Division investigates the conduct of the male and female teacher who spurred a storm of controversy with a raunchy and lewd dance performance last week in front of students at Churchill High School, psychologist Toby Rutner said the pair appears to have severely hurt their image as authority figures guiding impressional youths.
"I don't think it will have a devastating psychological effect on a kid because he witnessed two dogs going at it on the front lawn," Rutner said. "But this is a school, and these are teachers. Now it's difficult for us to respect them. In fact, it makes parents and everyone else question their judgment."
Shocked this wasn't in Saskatchewan! And to think, SO many good teachers have quit because they spent years on the sub list and couldn't get a FT position but these types, once they are hired, they are untouchable (unless they do this!)

"The fact remains that every successful private industry goes thru the trials of hiring and firing incompetitence. It is the reailty of life and business, but not for teachers. The rate of firing for incompetitence (sic) in the teachers union is far far far below average, simply because teachers are NOT fired for incompetitence (sic), but are shuffled off somewhere else."
EXACTLY. As I stated earlier the minimum one might expect in the private sector is a 1% thinning of the herd. There are over 150,000 teachers in Ontario yet NOT ONE HAS EVER BEEN FIRED FOR INCOMPETENCE. EVER. All the dead wood simply gets transferred.
Also, it is IMPOSSIBLE to flunk out of Teacher's College. One may be asked to voluntarily leave but cannot be denied accredidation.

It would be nice if they could teach their students to add and spell. Of course, every time they go on strike for MO MONEY and MO BENEFITS it would be nice if they didn't claim it was for their student's benefits.
Grasp this concept: teachers think 198 days is equivalent to 1 years work. I know a few miners, police officers and high riggers that would argue that suppostion.

Ralh, there are 2 sides to every story. No doubt your wife put in extra time and effort as there are still teachers out there who actually care about their jobs and put the effort into it to make sure it is done right. And nobody in the right mind would suggect its easy, esp in highschool where you now have to be concerned about things like assault. But your story would be the bright side of the coin. The fact remains that every successful private industry goes thru the trials of hiring and firing incompetitence. It is the reailty of life and business, but not for teachers. The rate of firing for incompetitence in the teachers union is far far far below average, simply because teachers are NOT fired for incompetitence, but are shuffled off somewhere else. They should all be held to a higher standard but instead are held to the lowest standard tht their powerful union are negotioate for them, at the expense of the children. Job security under a union blanket is one thing, but protection of the outright incompetitent is criminal and shameful, but hey,, when was the last time you encountered a union with shame?
Oh, and I'm sorry you can't claim you $50 ink. Lots of mature people do things like that for work all the time and don't fret about minor reinbursements AND don't whine about it. Welcome to the real world. You can cry me a river during your, what 12 weeks vacation per year (summer +Xmas+march break must equal 12 weeks if not more doesn't it?)

You mean you attended your child's "HOLIDAY CONCERT"...schools aren't allowed to have Christmas concerts.
I just hope the images of those children "bumping and grinding" don't become part of some pedophile's catalogue.

I atended my sons Grade 6 christmas concert this year and the first "act" was two girls doing a bump and grind dance routine to a Lady Gaga song. These are Grade 6 kids. 10 and 11 year olds. I was absolutely shocked that the school would allow that kind of dance routine. It was very sexually explicit. I noticed many other parents in the audience were also appalled. When I spoke with the Principal about it she simply stated that they hadn't seen the dance routine ahead of time. Ummm WHY NOT??? She told me they were too busy to supervise every little routine for the Christmas concert.
Unbelievable

Teachers should teach proven science and not be Al Gore, socialist parrots and indoctrinators like they are now.
Our schools are turning out Liberals ans socialists and they're that way because they're taught to be that way.
Teachers should leave their politics at home, or THEY should stay at home.
