Should parents have to pay when their kids commit crimes?
Thu, December 15, 2011

The Niagara Regional Police moved to address criticism surrounding its response to the Avenue Inn rampage, disputing the motel manager's claims the officers who were on scene Friday night didn't do enough to prevent a high school party from descending into a night of havoc.

Please leave those poor parents alone. If it wasn’t already obvious, it has now become painfully apparent that, with the help of the “no consequences” educational system, they have raised Morons. Now, they have to look forward to having “Mortimer” living in their basement and playing video games for the next 40 to 50 years. Employment possibilities in the future will always require learning those six crucial words “Would you like fries with that?” Isn’t that punishment enough?

"policepeople" now I've heard it all. Should we assume that "firepeople" is also correct, possibly "postpeople" too! This is too funny.

When there is property damage & the offender is 18 or under, absolutely. Why should parents walk away 'scott free' when their kids have cost someone else $$'s. I think its a great idea...

freddy, what?

Man you are some deluded as to how the system works.

Actually Shawn you get your facts straight and read the story again. What are you talking about the policepeople did not come until the next night.

They even saw the underage kids drinking

"Asked why the apparent underage drinking didn't cause officers to break up the party, McGilly said he made the decision to not cast the remaining kids out into the streets for their own safety."

And after reading it again I say for certain this could have been prevented if the policepeople had of done their jobs correctly.

" the officers at the motel had the opportunity to intervene and prevent the vandalism, but didn't."

Nice try Brig, one security dude was hired, but the police were not involved in this one until the next day when the damage was already done. Get your facts straight.

I'm still trying to get through my head what parent would let a teenage kid stay overnight in a motel after a prom with no chaperone or adult supervision!?? Those parents should be charged with neglect if anything and made to pay for the mess. It was their stupidity for letting the kids stay out all night that this happened. Come on now, teenagers, prom, party, motel, all night. That is a big poster saying destruction of property and morals. Are some parents that gullable to believe their kids would behave in those circumstances or is it because those parents just wanted to party themselves and with the kids gone were free to do as they please?

The parents certainly do have some responsibility on this one. They should be making their kids go there and help clean it up and as mentioned before, all those involved have their diplomas held and not allowed into school or any other form of education until it is paid for and repaired.

They think they are all grown up and can drink and party like an adult then they have to be responsible as an adult and be held accoutable for their actions by the law and their parents.

Welcome to adulthood.

It is societies fault for '''ALL''' tha damages caused by these so called human animals.

If Canadians were allowed to kick the asses of their unruly kids and punish them for their transgressions the proper way then we would not have the uncaring attitudes of todays children. Kids today somehow think it is ''THEIR RIGHT '' to act as they please and monny and daddy are only there to give them anything they want or bear the brunt of their spoiled temper tantrums.

The biblical tirade of spare the rod and spoil the child is comming true. These kids need the ultimate punishment. A two year stint in the Canadian Army boot camp where they can learn the proper methods of life and duty. Spend the time cleaning the manure from their pompas attitudes and clearing brush in our parks and forests and highways. Five in the morning exercise with a mile run and then breakfast then five hours of schooling then another mile run and exercise before a one oclock dinner and then work detail until six and another exercise time and an eight oclock supper. nine oclock lights out until five the next day. NO excuses .

If we do not form some kind of harsh punishment for this calous actions by supposed human children then we as a nation are lost. Just take for example the abusive tirade of one of our members of parliament only because he did not get his pompas spoiled way. This is a dastardly future we as Canadians can look forward to. Time to make a hard dicision. Kick these over grown baby asses where it does the most good. Bring the draft to Canada for all and any juvinile actions by these whatever....???

Puritan Stew, 2011-12-16 23:16:43

What a surprise, MB blames the police and not the kids. Lemme guess, the police should be charged and the kids let go.
