What did you think of NRA chief executive Wayne LaPierre's remarks?
You say suicide is a) not a mental health issue, and b) is a little of topic.
First of all, if suicide is not a mental health issue, as you say, I suggest you present some evidence. I KNOW it is a mental health issue, both in the lives of those who suffer the loss and in the person who committed suicide.
Further, your point b, that suicide is a little off topic, misses the whole point of my post. Suicide IS a mental health issue, and trying to insert some sort of rational thinking into the issue is as crazy as the act of the shooter at Sandy Hook or Columbine, because they were not thinking normally.
Outlawing guns will not stop insanity. Spending the money we have wasted on gun control measures instead on mental health issues, suicide prevention measures, that will have a far greater effect on the problem.

A little off topic but suicide is not always a mental health issue.
But the way people in the States defend their guns seems to be an insanity issue.
Amazing column today from the spokesperson for all right wingers, Peter Worthington about just how insane the NRA and gun lovers are.
Well said Peter

Sandy Hook and Columbine, and Ecole Polytechnique, and the shooting of four RCMP constables at Mayerthorpe have something in common. And it is not the use of guns that look like weapons of war. They could have as easily used duck hunting shotguns and the damage would have been as horrific.
No, go back and read the stories again and watch for something these all have in common. It is there, almost as an afterthought, that the shooters killed themselves. But that is not an afterthought. That is the point. These people all decided to commit suicide and all the other deaths are just tragic collateral damage.
Suicide is a mental health issue. It is not rational to kill oneself, and when someone decides to take this step, it is not possible to inject rationality into the discussion. Taking guns from a crazy person may be a great idea, but what is to stop him from using a bomb or a car, or fire or poison?
The problem is not the tool, the problem is the attitude. As long as we devalue human life, as long as we insist that little children are problems to be flushed rather than blessings from God, as long as we fight for the lives of murderers rather than justice for the murdered, as long as we teach our youth that suicide is normal and romantic, in Shakespeare and Hollywood and pop music, we will continue to have senseless epidemic suicide, and we will occasionally have horrific collateral damage.
