TORONTO - A 50-year-old hip-hop artist now faces a murder rap in the death of Andres Buritica-Marin, 25, a Colombian who was gunned down last week in an apparent drug deal gone bad at a Mississauga condo.
And the wife of the accused is also charged for allegedly helping him after the killing.
Denton McKenzie and his wife, Carolyn Alexander, 38, were arrested Friday, Peel Regional Police say.
"They were taken into custody without incident," Const. J.P. Valade said yesterday of the Brampton couple.
McKenzie, a mountain of a man who also goes by several aliases, including "Fred Cash," appears to be a singer judging by the numerous music videos posted on his MySpace page, one of which is entitled No More Gunshot.
It's unclear exactly what role "Cash" is alleged to have played in the region's eighth homicide of the year, but he is charged with first-degree murder, Valade said. His wife is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
The day before the Brampton couple was busted, police arrested another man, Collin Nathan Theodore Reid, 45, of Brampton, and charged him with second-degree murder.
Few details of the murder have been released, but Valade said a kilo of cocaine has since been recovered.
Buritica-Marin was found fatally shot just after 10 p.m. Tuesday. It's believed he was the seller in the alleged deal, but little else has been revealed.
