TORONTO -- A convicted killer was charged with murder after a man's body was found in North York yesterday morning.
The body was found in a parking lot on the north side of Barrymore Furniture Galleries at 1168 Caledonia Rd., north of Lawrence Ave. W., around 7:30 a.m.
After initially classifying the incident as a suspicious death, Toronto Police eventually declared it a homicide.
Det.-Sgt. Pauline Gray said at the scene she would not release the cause of death but early police reports said the body had suffered "obvious signs of trauma."
A first-degree murder warrant was issued for Edward Scheniman, 41, Gray said.
"I encourage everybody to keep an eye for Mr. Scheniman," Gray said. "If they do see him do not approach him -- he is dangerous. Just dial 911."
SURRENDERED
But at 8:30 p.m., a news release was issued saying Scheniman surrendered to police. He was charged with first-degree murder.
Scheniman pleaded guilty to the August, 1990 slashing death of 27-year-old Stanley Simon George. He was sentenced to 14 years in jail.
George's body was found in the CN Rail Danforth yard, east of Victoria Park Ave.
He was found with a fractured skull but an autopsy revealed George was actually killed by a slash wound.
Scheniman was arrested after he called police and directed them to the body.
The Caledonia Rd. death is not associated with gang activity and not related to a shooting incident Tuesday night when three men were injured at a bus stop on Lawrence Ave. W., just east of Keele St. The victim has been "tentatively identified".
