Edmonton slaying suspect on run
Cops say wanted city man may have fled to Vancouver area
By SHAWN LOGAN, SUN MEDIA
The Edmonton Sun

EDMONTON -- Cops are asking for the public's help in tracking down a man they allege may be responsible for last month's slaying of Sara Sanders.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Michael Flanigan, 40, in connection with the murder of Sanders, whose body was discovered at her 9825 103 St. apartment by a family member on Oct. 15.

Homicide Det. Dale Johnson said the Edmonton man may have headed west and they believe he may still be in the Vancouver area.

"The last information we have is that he was in Vancouver and we're appealing to the public for any information on his whereabouts," he said.

"We ask anyone who sees him to notify the police in whatever jurisdiction they're in." In addition to a second -degree murder warrant issued by Edmonton police, Flanigan is also wanted by the London Police Service in Ontario on Canada-wide warrants for assault, uttering threats, forcible confinement and mischief under $5,000.

Johnson said although it's not believed that Flanigan is armed, he warned members of the public not to approach him and advised they instead immediately call authorities.

"We don't believe him to be armed but we do have concerns," he said.

UNPREDICTABLE

"It has to do with the unpredictability of anybody who is facing murder charges."

Police have revealed little information about the case, including when or how Sanders was killed or any relationship that existed between her and Flanigan, but they are still on the hunt for a stranger who left a message on her answering machine, informing her that he had found her BlackBerry.

The message was left on Oct. 10 and Johnson said they don't believe there is any connection to the slaying but still want to talk with the mystery caller.

If you see Flanigan or know where he is, call police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
