MONTREAL — Montreal police say a 47-year-old man will be charged later today with first-degree murder in the slaying of a Correctional Service of Canada employee.

A police spokesman says the man was arrested late Thursday night and is currently detained while awaiting his arraignment this afternoon.

Const. Olivier Lapointe says the suspect’s name or any other details surrounding the arrest cannot be released yet.

Cournoyer, 37, a communications employee at the correctional service, mysteriously vanished last month from outside her office in Laval, just north of Montreal.

Her body was found five days later in a wooded area by the shore of the St. Lawrence River in Montreal’s east end.

She had worked with Corrections Canada since May and previously had a stint in communications with Industry Canada.
