Slain woman's hubby 'desperate' for love
By SAM PAZZANO, COURTS BUREAU
NEWMARKET -- Chris Little resorted to a flurry of flowers, books and new marriage vows to convince Julie Crocker to remain in their troubled marriage in early 2007. Little admitted yesterday at his trial on two counts of first-degree murder that all of his gestures failed miserably. Crocker was ending their 10-year union in the weeks leading up to her grisly death on Feb. 12, 2007. The prosecution is alleging he killed her once he realized it was over. Scott portrayed Little as a desperate husband clinging to an elusive dream of a monogamous marriage. Meanwhile, Crocker rebuffed him and humiliated him with her affair with sportscaster Rick Ralph. The discovery of this dalliance triggered a trial separation between Crocker and Little in October 2006. Little denied killing his wife and Ralph's spouse, staging it as a murder-suicide. The prosecution alleges Little kidnapped and strangled Paula Menendez to cover up Crocker's murder. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. Little testified he found Menendez hanging from the garage rafters in the early morning hours of Feb. 12, 2007 and then rushed to the door of his Larkin Ave. home. Scott accused Little of having already murdered his wife when he feigned surprise at discovering her body while speaking to a 911 operator. Scott noted Little stopped to remove his shoes instead of charging up the stairs to check on his family after seeing the dead woman in the garage. "You already knew Julie Crocker was dead and your children were fine," suggested Scott. Little denied it. The trial continues today. SAM.PAZZANO@SUNMEDIA.CA
