WINNIPEG - Police seized a large amount of drugs when they raided a hotel room at South Beach Casino and Resort last week.
Last Wednesday RCMP arrested Selkirk resident Alexander Paul Doyle, 22, for allegedly breaching conditions of a recognizance related to several outstanding drug and weapons charges.
RCMP had received a tip that Doyle was staying at the hotel. He allegedly had drugs on him when he arrested and so did a young woman who was also in the hotel room, police said.
Const. David Obirek, a spokesman for Manitoba RCMP, said police had been on the lookout for Doyle for a couple of weeks.
RCMP returned to the room later that day with a search warrant and seized about 70 Oxycodone pills with a street value of approximately $1,400, a small amount of crack cocaine, about 15 grams of marijuana and more than $400 in cash.
Doyle was charged with a number of drug offences, possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of breach of recognizance.
Jade Aylyssa Hood, 19, of Selkirk is facing the same list of drug and stolen property charges, as well as two counts of breaching a recognizance.
Doyle is no stranger to police. In April 2006 he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to two years in prison for stabbing a man three times over a disagreement over shoes.
Earlier this year Doyle and three others were charged with drug trafficking and production after Winnipeg police found four ounces of powder cocaine, 10 grams of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and cash during a raid on a home in Selkirk.
Doyle and Hood appeared in Selkirk provincial court on Friday and are currently being held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. Both are scheduled to appear in Winnipeg court tomorrow. South Beach Casino is about 60 km northeast of Winnipeg on Highway 59.
