3 charged in inmate beating death
By TOM GODFREY, SUN MEDIA
The Toronto Sun

Three men charged with the beating death of a fellow inmate at Toronto's notorious Don Jail showed little emotion at bail hearings yesterday before being returned to custody.

Troy Victor Campbell, 24, Osman Sarikay, 22, and Kevin Andre Veiro, 21, were brought in separately before a justice of the peace at College Park Court.

The men were each charged with first-degree murder for last Saturday's killing of Jeff Munro, 32, who was beaten and kicked to death.

Police were called to the Gerrard St. E. jail just before 8 p.m. and found Munro dead from facial trauma.

He reportedly was beaten in an area not monitored by cameras.

Munro, who was raised in Brantford but worked in Toronto, was an avid dancer who had performed on the Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise lines.

The victim's mom, Christine Munro, of Brantford, said her son's death could have been avoided.

'UNSTABLE, ILL'

Munro had said she had known something would happen to her son some day, but she always thought it would be from drugs.

He was addicted to crystal meth and was "ill and unstable," she said.

"The police knew him and how to handle him. The jail should have known."

Munro was thrown in the Don Jail four days earlier on a breach of probation charge.
