Man charged in fatal crash stabbed on subway
By ROB LAMBERTI, SUN MEDIA
The Toronto Sun

A man charged in a fatal crash near Coboconk was yesterday repeatedly stabbed while riding the TTC, allegedly by the boyfriend of a woman killed in the June wreck.

Robert Laine, 21, of Brooklin, was taken to Toronto General Hospital after the 2 a.m. attack as the train pulled into Warden subway station.

Toronto Police said the stabbing followed a chance meeting on the train between the victim and the suspect.

The incident began as a fist fight that escalated.

Laine's most serious wound was a stabbing to the abdomen, but police said the injuries are not life-threatening.

Laine was charged in September with two counts of criminal negligence causing death and three counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm following the June 29 crash involving a green 1999 Ford Excursion carrying six people.

ROLLED OVER

The SUV was travelling southwest on Baseline Rd. when the driver allegedly lost control near Hugill Rd. and entered a ditch.

The vehicle rolled over and struck a utility pole, OPP had reported. The crash killed Shante Tracy Roberts, 20, of Scarborough, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Jessica Luke, 17, of Mississauga, was airlifted to St. Michael's hospital after the crash but died July 26.

Kassandra Sheppard, 18, of Scarborough, suffered severe injuries that altered her life. Two other passengers, Aneel Ansara, 26, and John Mendoza, 23, both of Scarborough, suffered minor injuries.

Laine was also injured in the crash, but the injuries were not life-threatening, police said at the time.

Peter Filipak, 18, is charged with threatening death, assault, aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing weapons dangerous.
