WINNIPEG -- Five people are facing charges after a violent incident Saturday night.

Police were called to the area of Ross Avenue and Isabel Street about 6:10 p.m. regarding an assault that stemmed from an argument at a party inside a residence in the 500-block of Ross.

An investigation by Division 11 detectives determined the dispute continued outside the home, where a 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to her upper body after being attacked by a group of people.

"All the people involved in the dispute in the residence were ejected," said Winnipeg police spokeswoman Const. Jacqueline Chaput, adding the assault happened just outside the home.

One of the attackers, a 34-year-old man, had a gun. He is facing a charge of assault with a weapon and numerous other firearms-related offences in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

A 30-year-old woman is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm and is also in custody.

Three other women between the ages of 27 and 36 are also facing charges, police said. They were released on a promise to appear.

Police continue to investigate.
