WINNIPEG -- A male was in hospital yesterday after he was assaulted — possibly with a machete — in the Winnipeg's downtown area Saturday.

City police were called to the scene in the area of Colony Street and Portage Avenue about 2:15 p.m.

A police spokesman did not know the victim's condition yesterday afternoon. No one had been arrested yesterday.

Officers sealed off the area for roughly three hours.

Last weekend a machete-wielding man was fatally shot by Winnipeg police in the West End.
