By Doug Hempstead, QMI Agency

OTTAWA - An investigation into a hit and run crash has led to charges against an Ottawa police officer, including drunk driving.

The investigation dates back to a hit and run in the city on March 18.

Investigators found a vehicle first struck a pole before continuing on and crashing into another vehicle.

The vehicle was abandoned when investigators arrived at the scene.

Police charged Sgt. Christopher McGuinness on Thursday with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He also faces a charge of failing to remain at the scene of an accident under the Highway Traffic Act, and discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act.

McGuinness has been suspended with pay and will appear in court June 16.
