Man busted for smuggling cocaine in his underwear
By TOM GODFREY, QMI Agency

The Canada Border Services Agency seized cocaine that was concealed in pellets and hidden inside a man's underwear.

TORONTO - A Colombian man is behind bars after allegedly trying to smuggle almost 2 kilograms of cocaine in his underwear through Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

"The cocaine was concealed in pellets in a plastic bag inside his underwear," Vanessa Barrasa, of the Canada Border Services Agency, said on Tuesday.

Barrasa said the suspect, who wasn't identified, was arrested on Sunday as he arrived on a flight from Bogota.

She said officers detected anomalies in the passenger’s behaviour and he was sent for a secondary check.

Officers found in a bag in the suspect's undies containing 1.7 kg of cocaine, with a street value of $215,000.

CBSA director general Rick Comerford said the seizure is due to good work by his front-line officers.

“I would like to commend the officers involved in this seizure,” Comerford said. “This is another example of how officer vigilance keeps drugs off our streets and out of our communities.”

The suspect, who claimed he was visiting Canada, was charged for importing a controlled substance and has a bail hearing this week in Brampton, Ont., court.

Police said he faces deportation if convicted.
