By QMI Agency

An RCMP officer in Kelowna, B.C., has been charged with assault.

A man alleges he was assaulted by a police officer near a nightclub on Leon Ave. in Kelowna around the time the bar was closing on the night of Feb. 14, police said.

Police began two investigations into the alleged assault, one under the Criminal Code and one under the RCMP Internal Code of Conduct.

Const. Christopher Brinnen was charged with one count of assault. He is scheduled to appear in Kelowna court on Sept. 13.

Brinnen remains on duty as the internal code of conduct investigation continues.
