TORONTO - A 13-year-old boy is charged with armed robbery after a pizza delivery man had a handgun put to his head at a late Monday heist at York University in Toronto.
Toronto Det.-Sgt. Al Coulter said a second suspect is being sought for the robbery.
Coulter said the weapon is believed to be real. The pistol has yet to be recovered, he said.
"He's pretty young to be pointing a gun at somebody," Coulter said in amazement.
"Thirteen years old and pointing it right at the head. I think he tossed that gun somewhere and we're still looking for it.
The victims, aged 21 and 27, delivered food to an address in the city's north-west end when one suspect approached.
Seconds after the suspect asked to look at the food, he pulled out the pistol and pointed it to the head of one victim, and took the grub and cash.
The suspect then demanded the victim's cell phone and more money. The armed suspect then pointed the weapon at the other victim and demanded his cell phone and cash.
The duo then fled the scene.
"We've had a rash of pizza robberies over the summer and our guys keep following them up," Coulter said. "We've made a number of arrests."
He said the heists are set-ups where the victims are lured to a particular address, and then are robbed at the point of a gun or a knife.
"These guys are targets and they're lured into their (suspects') territory," Coulter said.
"At one point in the summer, I think we contacted every pizza delivery place in the neighbourhood, so many were being hit, advising the drivers to be cautious," he said.
