The man accused of killing a missing Newfoundland woman is the father of her one-year-old boy.
CBC reports David Folker, 39, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and interfering with a dead body.
Folker was in a romantic relationship with Ann Marie Shirran, 32, who had been missing from her St. John's home since July 19.
On Sept. 2, campers found human remains, which they described as “some skeleton parts,” outside the rural southern community of Cappahayden. A few days later, police confirmed the remains belonged to Shirran and that foul play was suspected.
Folker was arrested Monday.
Police held a press conference in St. John's Monday, but remained tight-lipped about the case, telling reporters that releasing any further information could jeopardize the investigation.
Meanwhile, condolences have been pouring in on the Facebook group Missing Mommy (Ann Shirran), which has over 6,000 members.
“My deepest sympathy goes out to all those who were in and a part of Ann's life. She was studying and working for RJF Healthcare before she went to Newfoundland. I was privileged to work with her and watch her excel in everything she did. She was a beautiful person,” wrote Heather Ly-ore.
Condolences poured in from across the province, from friends and strangers alike.
“My heart is broken, for Ann's little boy, and for her mom ... and for all those left behind to mourn the loss of such a beautiful woman, such a loving mother. I , like so many others, held strong to the hope that Ann would be found and returned to her family. I pray that justice is served,” wrote Karen Murphy Coultas
“I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling, but know every heart in this province holds you close at this sad time,” wrote Krista Quinn-Chidley.
Memorial services are being planned for St. John's, and Corner Brook, where Shirran grew up.
Folker remains in custody until his next court appearance on Sept. 28.
