CALGARY -- RCMP have charged a Calgary man who allegedly assaulted two officers called out to a disturbance in Strathmore, Alta.
About 1 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP was called to a hotel in Strathmore for a report of a blaring vehicle horn that was disturbing guests.
When an officer arrived at the hotel, he found an intoxicated man who was also suffering from a mental illness.
RCMP say the man violently attacked the officer, punching him and spitting blood into his face and eyes.
Mounties allege the man continued to fight as backup officers arrived at the scene and a second officer was then attacked.
One of the assaulted Mounties was taken to the Strathmore hospital for treatment and was released shortly after.
Steven James Scott, 23, of Calgary, is charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of uttering death threats against police officers, three counts of breaching court orders, and mischief.
Scott was released on $800 cash bail and is set to appear in Strathmore Provincial Court at 9 a.m. on Sept. 21.
