GRAND PRAIRIE, Alta. -- Police are tight-lipped about a Friday arrest for attempted murder and sexual assault at a residence near Bear Canyon, Alta.
Bear Canyon, 133 northwest of Grand Prairie, is a fairly small community, said Const. Brad Giles of the Fairview RCMP, and there is concern over the alleged victim’s identity being kept quiet.
“We’re definitely trying to protect this person’s identity for now and we’re still working on the file,” he said.
What police have said is three officers went to the residence Sept. 3 to make the arrest and the individual gave himself up without resistance.
The individual was charged with attempted murder with a firearm, sexual assault, uttering death threats, unlawful confinement and also choking to overcome resistance to an offence.
“The (victim) didn’t call it an attempted murder, but certainly when we talked to the person we classified it as attempted murder,” said Giles though he could not say whether this was a domestic incident.
The victim was taken to Fairview Hospital and released the same day.
Peace River’s forensic identification section, RCMP K Division’s major crimes unit and general investigation section, and officers of the Grimshaw RCMP have since joined the investigation.
The accused will make a first appearance in Fairview provincial court on Wednesday.
