WINNIPEG - A former Manitoba Mountie has pleaded guilty to sex charges involving a 17-year-old girl.
Benjamin Neufeldt, 26, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count each of invitation to sexual touching and forcible confinement, arising from an Aug. 6, 2008, incident at Bloodvein First Nation.
Judge Ken Hanssen adjourned sentencing for the preparation of a pre-sentence report. Neufeldt, who now lives in British Columbia, remains free on bail.
A sentencing date will be set in December.
According to an agreed statement of facts filed with the court, the two-year constable took the victim to his home after her mother requested police help in removing her from a drinking party.
Neufeldt, who admitted in court he was in a position of trust, confined the girl in his house and made sexual advances on her before she managed to escape.
Neufeldt wasn't arrested until December 2008, following a four month investigation.
Special prosecutor Robert Tapper told court he will be seeking a sentence of six years in prison. Defence lawyer Todd Bourcier said he will be recommending a sentence of two and a half years.
