MONTREAL - A Montreal cyber-predator who lured dozens of young girls into stripping online may soon be declared a dangerous or long-term offender.
On Thursday, a judge granted the Crown's request to have Daniel Lesiewicz, 30, undergo psychiatric testing.
"We made this request because of the particularity of the facts and the way the crimes were committed," said Crown prosecutor Cynthia Gyenizse.
Lesiewicz pleaded guilty last March to some 90 charges of extortion, luring and the production and distribution of child porn.
Lesiewicz is suspected of approaching at least 25 teenage girls online before persuading them to undress and perform sexual acts in front of their webcams.
He then threatened to distribute the videos online if they didn't continue to strip for him.
The Internet blackmailer has been in custody since his 2008 arrest.
Lesiewicz may in fact have over 100 victims, Gyenizse said, adding that the majority have never been identified.
If the court declares Lesiewicz a dangerous offender, he will remain in custody indefinitely. As a long-term offender, he will under close scrutiny for up to 10 years following his release.
Lesiewicz is due back in court Oct. 27 for his sentencing hearing. A number of his victims are scheduled to be witnesses at the pre-sentencing.
