Teen charged in schoolyard sex assault
By QMI Agency

CALGARY - Police have charged a 16-year-old boy in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place at a schoolyard as a group of youths looked on.

Investigators with the child abuse unit said the teen who has been charged arranged a meeting with a 12-year-old girl on a social networking site and agreed to meet in the playground at Clarence Sansom School on Monday afternoon.

Cops allege the girl and the accused engaged in a sexual act as a group of eight others looked on, but say there is no evidence those watching encouraged the assault.

No photos or video have been recovered from the witnesses and alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

The 16-year-old boy, who can't be named, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 20.
