Would-be pot buyer slashed with meat cleaver
By MEGAN GILLIS, QMI Agency

OTTAWA — A 14-year-old charged in connection with a robbery in which a would-be pot buyer was slashed with a meat cleaver was detained after a brief court appearance Tuesday.

The tall, slim teen, dwarfed by a blue jail jumpsuit and who had to be asked to speak up in court, is charged with assault with a weapon, robbery, carrying a weapon dangerous to the public and four counts of breaching prior conditions in connection with the incident Monday night.

The victim, a man in his early 20s, asked two suspects to sell him some marijuana.

One suspect demanded the money up front which he said he'd give the dealer. When the victim refused, he was grabbed by the shirt.

He fought back and was slashed on the right bicep with a six-inch blade.

Patrol officers arrested a 14-year-old suspect nearby shortly afterward.

The youth will be back in court Sept. 21. Police did not have a description of the second suspect.
