Death threat suspect also faces child porn charges
By QMI Agency

David Abitbol. (QMI Agency)

MONTREAL – A 28-year-old Montreal man accused of sending death threats over popular social networking sites may be facing new charges related to child pornography.

Crown prosecutors say hundreds images of child porn were found on David Abitbol’s computer.

“A preliminary analysis of the computer led us to two files of juvenile pornography,” prosecutor Steeve Lariviere told reporters Wednesday.

Abitbol was arrested last Saturday from his north-end Montreal home after police received a tip from the public alleging he threatened former teachers and classmates on MSN and Facebook. He was apparently using the online handle “David Darkkiller”.

A police cyber-surveillance team tracked the alleged threats to Abitbol.

Quebec provincial police said they found five firearms during their search, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. They also seized Abitbol’s computer.

“A rabbit came out the hat,” said defence lawyer Charles Benmuyan on Wednesday, referring to the child porn found on the computer.

“We’re certain those files are there but we don’t know yet how they got there and how recently they were accessed, if at all.”

Abitbol already faces charges of uttering death threats and firearms violations.

In a jailhouse interview with QMI Agency on Saturday, the 28-year-old said he was just fooling around with a friend online when he made the comments about former elementary school teachers and classmates.

Abitbol’s bail hearing has been delayed until next Wednesday while prosecutors consider the new charges.
