First-degree murder charge in dismemberment case

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Dylan Albert Jocko now faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Wesley Hallam, whose decapitated and dismembered remains were found in a creek.

Hallam was murdered at a house party on Jan. 8.

Jocko, 26, was charged with accessory after the fact on Jan. 30.

That charge still stands unless the Crown decides to withdraw it at trial, said Sgt. Lisa Kenopic.

Jocko was charged with first-degree Wednesday morning at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.

Kenopic declined comment on what prompted the upgraded charge.

Jocko is also charged with indecently interfering with a dead human body.

That relates to the dismemberment of Hallam's body, said Kenopic. She wouldn't elaborate.

Hallam's remains were found on Jan. 11.

Jocko is scheduled to appear in bail court on Wednesday.

Ronald Albert Mitchell, 26, is charged with second-degree murder in Hallam's death. He was arrested Jan. 17.

Sault Ste. Marie is located on the southeastern edge of Lake Superior.
