Man charged with defrauding his dates
By ALEX CONSIGLIO, Toronto Sun

Jason Porter, 37, has been charged with defrauding women he was dating, Toronto Police said Thursday.

A man used dating websites to defraud women of $40,000, alleged Toronto Police.

The man’s ploy involved gaining the trust of women he met online, luring them into relationships and then opening bank accounts and credit cards in their names without their knowledge, according to investigators.

He perpetrated his scheme while posing as a successful businessman between May 2011 and November 2011 and would leave the relationship before banks notified the women, police say.

Jason Porter, 37, president of Preston Evans Media, is charged with 23 offences.

They include fraud, use of a credit card obtained by crime, failure to comply with probation and possession of burglar’s tools.

He is to appear in court Jan.13.
