Six people have been arrested in connection with a string of attacks on police and government websites in Quebec.

Police have not released the suspects' names, but said they made arrests in Rimouski, Forestville, Montreal and Longueuil. Three of those arrested are under 18.

All six face charges of mischief, unauthorized use of a computer, and conspiracy.

"Police officials take these crimes very seriously and deploy every means at their disposal to trace the perpetrators. They will face criminal charges, regardless of the intent behind their actions," police said in a statement, translated from French.

Provincial cops, RCMP, and three municipal police forces collaborated to investigate the May 18 attacks.

Cops didn't say which sites the suspects are accused of attacking, but last month saw the province's education and public safety department websites hacked, as well as those of the Liberal party and the Montreal police.

Police did not say whether those arrested are members of the cyber-vigilante group Anonymous.
