EDMONTON -- After telling a B.C. courtroom he fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend because he believed she was part of a group of serial killers plotting to kill him, the son of a former Edmonton police chief has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Following a two-day trial for stabbing an undercover police officer in September 2011, a Kamloops, B.C., judge found that Mark Lindsay had definitely stabbed the undercover cop and stole the truck they had been driving is subject to whether he had the mental intent. The case will continue Sept. 14.
The 25-year-old also faces a charge of second-degree murder in Alberta for the death of his ex-girlfriend, Dana Turner, 31, a mother of three.
Turner was last seen on the morning of Aug. 16, 2011, at the Quality Inn West Hotel. Her remains were later found in a farmer's field near Innisfail, Alta., in October 2011.
Shortly after her disappearance, police launched an investigation that involved an undercover officer meeting Lindsay on a Greyhound bus and befriending him.
During a road trip from Edmonton to Kamloops, Lindsay told the court Wednesday that he took a pen from his pocket and stabbed the cop above the eye as the two men drove away from a gas station in Barriere, B.C., about 45 minutes north of Kamloops.

Next week, Lindsay will have another trial for stabbing a fellow inmate beneath the eye a month after his arrest.
Lindsay told the court the reason he killed Turner and stabbed the undercover cop and former cellmate was because he believed they were part of a group of serial killers who were planning to kill him.
Lindsay's father, John Lindsay, was unable to be reached for comment.
