Gatineau cops appeal for tips in Leblanc murder case

OTTAWA - Police will return Thursday to the Gatineau, Que., college where a teen student was found murdered last year in an effort to drum up new leads.

Since the body of a badly beaten and burned Valerie Leblanc, 18, was discovered behind the CEGEP de l'Outaouais on Aug. 23, 2011 homicide detectives have been searching fruitlessly for her killer.

On the anniversary of her death, police had set up a command centre at the college hoping someone would provide the clue they need to crack the case.

Detectives remain keen to speak with anyone who was near the crime scene between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the day Leblanc was discovered, even if those people do not believe they saw anything important.

Gatineau police also warned reporters to keep their distance after over-zealous television crews drove away tipsters by filming anyone approaching the command centre cops had established in August.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and anyone with information can call the tipline at 819-243-2346 ext. 6677.
