OTTAWA — Steven Boone's trial on charges including trying to kill sex partners by infecting them with HIV is off until Monday because "he is not feeling well enough to participate," jurors heard Thursday.
Judge Bonnie Warkentin explained that under Canadian law, accused people have the right to participate "meaningfully" in their trial.
Boone, 30, has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and administering a noxious substance to three men and aggravated sexual assault against two of them and three others.
After days of hearing graphic MSN chats by the self-described "poz vampire," the jury heard three men testify Wednesday about meeting Boone — who allegedly claimed he was "clean” — for sex.
A then-17-year-old — the only man the Crown alleges Boone actually infected — testified of nine incidents of unprotected anal sex.
A 25-year-old man said he had oral sex with Boone once.
A 26-year-old man said they had anal sex once, but Boone used a condom.
