HALIFAX - The surviving suspect accused of kidnapping, chaining and raping a teenaged boy in rural Nova Scotia will appear in court here Tuesday.
David James Leblanc, 47, faces seven charges: kidnapping, forcible confinement, sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, uttering death threats and breach of conditions. Leblanc and his alleged partner in crime, Wayne Alan Cunningham, 31, lead police on a week-long manhunt across four provinces after a 16-year-old boy told police he was snatched from the streets of Halifax and driven to Upper Chelsea in Lunenburg County about two hours west of the capital.
There, in a run down shack, the teen said he was held in chains for two weeks and raped by two men. He told police and one of his rescuers that he overheard his captors talk about selling or killing him.
Cunningham, Leblanc's common-law partner of 10 years, was found dead in northwestern Ontario near where Ontario Provincial Police found the accused couple's car and Leblanc.
When Leblanc was last in court, friends of the teen disrupted the proceedings and other members of the community attended to express their disapproval.
