A trial date was set Friday for the Edmonton man accused of killing three armoured car company co-workers during a robbery at the University of Alberta's Hub Mall.

Travis Baumgartner, 21, is slated to have a three-week trial in Court of Queen's Bench beginning on Sept. 9.

Baumgartner faces three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and four counts of robbery with a firearm in connection with the June 15 heist.

Baumgartner was one of five G4S Cash Solutions security guards exchanging funds at a bank machine inside the Hub Mall shortly after midnight.

At some point during the job, guards Michelle Shegelski, 26, Brian Ilesic, 35, and Eddie Rejano, 39, were shot and killed — three inside and one outside. Guard Matthew Schuman was taken to hospital in critical condition, but has since recovered.

A G4S armoured car, which police believe was the initial getaway vehicle used in the robbery, was discovered empty near a southeast Edmonton G4S facility later.

A Canada-wide warrant for Baumgartner was issued and he led police agencies across the province on a 36-hour manhunt that ended June 16 when he was caught at the Lynden, Wash., border crossing, southwest of Abbotsford, B.C.

He was carrying more than $330,000 in Canadian currency and his own driver's licence, but no passport.
