EDMONTON - Charges have been upgraded to dangerous driving causing death after an 11-year-old St. Paul, Alta., girl died of her injuries when a mini van slammed into her school classroom.
Megan Wolitski was one of three girls pinned underneath a van that plowed through the St. Paul junior high school Oct. 25. Wolitski died the following day of her injuries, while the other two remain in Edmonton hospitals - one remains in critical condition.
The van crashed through a Grade 6 French immersion classroom around 9:30 a.m.
Richard Edward Benson, 46, of St. Paul, was charged with four counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one count of resisting arrest and one count of possessing marijuana. The bodily harm charges have been updated to dangerous driving causing death charges.
Benson is at a St. Paul courtroom Monday for a bail hearing.
