JOLIETTE, Que. — A 13-year-old boy pleaded not guilty in youth court Friday on charges of sexually assaulting and trying to kill a 13-year-old girl.

The boy allegedly trapped and forcibly confined the girl in his basement on Thursday. He lives a few houses down from the girl, in the city of Repentigny, Que., just east of Montreal.

The alleged victim is still in hospital. Police have not released many details about her condition, however, QMI Agency learned that she suffered a perforated lung and lacerations to her neck and face.

The boy has been charged with several serious crimes including attempted murder, armed sexual assault, and forcible confinement.

The 13-year-old girl's parents called police when their daughter didn't come home after school on Thursday. She returned home by herself at 9 p.m.

Police spokesman Bruno Marier told QMI Agency that the girl said a neighbour had hurt her. Police interrogated the boy and arrested him.
