Killer drunk driver sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison
By Megan Gillis, QMI Agency

Erin Vance, a 26-year-old mother of two, was killed by a hit-and-run driver as she walked along a rural road in Constance Bay on Sunday, March 18.

OTTAWA - A 23-year-old man who drunkenly mowed down a young mother was sentenced Monday to nearly five years behind bars and banned from driving for 10 years.

Jeremy Rees struck and killed Erin Vance, 26, on a west-end road on St. Patrick's Day after drinking and driving all day and night — even consuming a beer behind the wheel, Judge Celynne Dorval said.

He fled the scene after the crash so police couldn't test his blood-alcohol level, leaving the mother of twin five-year-olds dead.
