Two B.C. men have been charged with aggravated assault after an 18-year-old man was set on fire while he slept on the kitchen floor at a house party.

RCMP said a young man suffered second- and third-degree burns to most of his back when he was intentionally set on fire during a house party in Kelowna early Saturday. He had fallen asleep on the floor, when one man allegedly poured a flammable liquid onto his back and lit him on fire while the other filmed it.

The victim's family is asking for privacy as they handle his recovery.

Matthew Sweet-Grant, 20, and Joshua McWhirter, 18, both of Kelowna, have been charged with aggravated assault. They are in police custody and scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.

Investigators believe that this is not the first time one of the accused has lit someone who was incapacitated by drugs or alcohol on fire.
