MONTREAL - Police carried out raids against the Montreal-area mafia on Wednesday, investigating a series of firebombings.
Police targeted mob operatives in a series of arson attacks that have damaged Italian cafes and other businesses since 2010.
Officers searched locations Wednesday in Montreal and suburban Laval, making two arrests.
There have been a series of mob assassinations and firebombings across Montreal since 2009 as the Rizzuto crime family struggles to hold on to drug territory sought by rivals.
Rizzuto bodyguard Giuseppe Fetta was shot and wounded in the city's north end on Monday.
The shooting follows the assassination last month of family associate Joseph "Joe" Di Maulo, who was shot and killed at his home north of Montreal.
One of the few Rizzutos left standing is mob boss Vito Rizzuto, who returned to Canada in October after serving several years in a U.S. prison for a 1981 mob hit.
