LAVAL, Que. – Thieves smashed through the window of a pet shop near Montreal early Thursday morning and stole four dogs - two female chihuahuas and two male morkies - with a combined value of $7,000.

Laval police told QMI Agency that the thieves went straight for the dogs and ignored everything else in the Laval store.

“The two suspects broke the window (of the store) with a hammer, they went directly to the cages, which they also broke,” said Lt. Patrick Boucher with the Laval police. “They took the dogs, put them in a bag, and left. They didn’t even touch the cash register.”

The theft was caught on security camera, but police said they weren’t able to identify the thieves.

Boucher said citizens should be suspicious of people trying to give chihuahuas or morkies as gifts or trying to sell them on the Internet.
